Museums & Tourist Railroads
Our region is fortunate to features a wide variety of railroad museums and tourist railroads, mostly staffed by dedicated volunteers passionate about railroad preservation. To get their days and hours of operation, please go to their websites and see everything they offer.
We are only listing organizations within a reasonable drive from Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. There are other worthy museums and tourist railroads throughout these states, along with many require an overnight trip that are definitely worth visiting.
Many of these museums and tourist railroads also offer themed rides aimed towards the public: Easter Bunny Trains, Pumpkin Trains, Ghost Trains, visits from Thomas the Tank Engine, and Christmas/Santa Trains...all of which are are extremely popular with families with children of all ages.
