Since 1969, the members of the Blackhawk Railway Historical Society have been interested in our railroad history and are actively involved in its study and preservation.

Coming to our area this Summer...Union Pacific's famed Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive, as part of a historic coast-to-coast tour to celebrate America's 250th anniversary, will be passing through Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana. |
- THURSDAY, JULY 16 - On its return home, 4014 will come back to the area also on the former-Nickel Plate line from Fort Wayne, IN and runs the reverse of the June 5 routing for its overnight stay in South Holland, IL
- FRIDAY, JULY 17 - 4014 will leave UP's yard in South Holland, IL and take the IHB up to Argo Jct. where it will head south on the former Chicago & Alton (passing through historic canal towns Lemont, Lockport, and Joliet, IL) and then will overnight in Bloomington, IL
